Alternative Firing Methods

Obvara

Obvara is a 12th-century Eastern European technique that involves dipping a hot vessel into a fermented mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, followed by rapid cooling. This thrilling process creates unique and spectacular patterns before your eyes.

Feather & Hair

This technique carbonises feathers and materials like hair, sugar, and woodchips on your heated vessel. These materials create smoke patterns and carbon trails that remain as decoration once the pottery cools, instantly creating a stunning decorative vessel.

Saggar

The Saggar technique involves assembling combustible materials like dried banana peels, copper wire, and soluble salts in an aluminum package, followed by a quick low-temperature firing. Once unwrapped, colours of abstract patterns slowly emerge on the vessel before your eyes.
